Micro utility

Budget Canvas

Build a quick budget line by line, mix direct prices with percentage-based costs, and keep a simple calculator beside you so the main total stays easy to follow.

Main budget

Add rows like a simple sheet

Use direct prices by default. Add each cost as its own row so the running total stays clear and easy to scan.

Remove

Add each line item with quantity and unit price.

Grand total row

$0.00

Row-by-row audit

Worked example

Worked example: building a small event budget

This example mirrors the calculator's core use case: mix a few fixed line items with a percentage-based fee and keep the running total visible the whole time.

Scenario

You are sketching a 30-person event budget and want the service fee to calculate from the catering row instead of typing it by hand.

Example assumptions

  • Venue row: 1 x $1,200.00.
  • Catering row: 30 x $18.00 per guest = $540.00.
  • Service fee row: 1 x 12% of the catering row = $64.80.
  • Flowers and signage row: 1 x $150.00.

How the budget builds

Manual rows subtotal
$1,890.00
Percentage-based fee
$64.80

This stays tied to the catering row, so if catering changes the fee updates automatically too.

Grand total
$1,954.80

Worked example math

$1,200.00 + $540.00 + $64.80 + $150.00 = $1,954.80

Budget Canvas is most useful when one or two percentage rows would otherwise force you into side calculations. Keeping them attached to the base row makes the budget easier to trust.

Transparency

See every formula behind the numbers

Nothing here is hidden. Expand this section to review the live math for each row, the grand total, and the helper utilities on the side.

Main formulas

Manual row = quantity x unit price
Percent row = quantity x (base row total x percent ÷ 100)
Grand total = sum of every row total

Grand total with your live numbers

$0.00 = $0.00

Validation rules

Empty number fields behave like zero until you finish the row.

Percentage rows can only point to rows above them, which prevents circular math.

The simple calculator blocks divide-by-zero results instead of showing an invalid number.

Simple calculator formula

0 + 0 = 0

Percentage helper formula

0% of $0.00 = $0.00 x (0 ÷ 100) = $0.00
